Dear Vietnam
Since you are gone, a new war has emerged that involves the whole world, not meaning only the West (Dear West, it is time to open you eyes). Exaggerating headlines call it the Cyber Cold War. There emerged a new social layer that hosts this icy war, and in that, there are no casts, only bandwiths. There emerged a new melting pot that provides us with guns & ammo as well as flowers & sun. Guess which one is chosen more frequently...
In the online world the borders are not taken for granted, it is a joke to claim that they even exist. When saying "borders" I mean all kinds. State borders, group borders, DRM borders, personal space borders, minority borders... No one can hide. Each code is breakable just like each law is. Plus there is no fear of a policing authority around. Yes, there are a few attempts but that is the thing with policing: fear is deferring, the sanctions are not.
[you know what, I think I need another punctuation mark. when "the rest of my list" is short I'll be using ".." from now on instead of "..." There dots just don't feel right. For an example of what the hell I'm talking about please refer below.]
So what happens when this newbie social layer contains means and intentions to invade "all the other" layers.. War happens as expected. Super smart agents sneak through ports into intimate database of the opposite party to ruin their evil plans and achieve mighty glory. These agents are tend to be called hackers & crackers & masters.. words that are supposed to sound superior and anomalous. They sneak into security systems, top secret documentary... hidden drawers where you keep your valuables basicly. Ethics is not even a matter of hesitation. It can be done, so people do it. Because no matter how discreet you are, there is some place that you keep what needs to be hidden, and that place happens to be the internet due to its convenience.
So dear Vietnam, what to do. You have choices:
1. Join the war. Take your filty share and hit the top so that your head aches.
2. Keep blind. Take a few measures and say it was destiny for two planes to crash into the WTC.
3. Keep sane. Store and share your information wisely. At least until a credible policing authority emerges (People who stick by anarchy in theory, please refer to the choices above).
For example:
Don't go murmuring about your job on your blog, there will be days -hopefully- when you'll feel otherwise about it. There will be days when your colleagues will read and judge you on those few negative words. I'm not saying "just swallow your feelings" but this channel is open to interpretation and exploitation more than anything else and you can't control it.
If you are persistent about using social networks don't give your personal information that are asked of you during your identification on other social layers (banks etc). If you did, find a way to erase it. It is not that you can't trust that social network (Actually they are the only ones you can trust because they are monitored so closely) but there is a way for interested parties to access that information illegaly. I'm not saying become a paranoid freak, I'm suggesting you pay a little more attention to such details so that you avoid being a paranoid and a victim.
Don't keep your information online, at least the confidential ones. There are still ways to store and share it hardcopy. I know you are inclined to use your sweetheart pc but try to refrain from doing so.
Remember,
Going with the flow had cost you a lot Vietnam.
